We are aware that anyone using these forums at any time may be struggling in life in some way or be in a crisis. These forums do not provide any sort of qualified, professional opinion or advice about problems and crisis situations. With that in mind, the purpose of this post is to be a resource for providing links and contact details to general charities and organisations (not specifically with a Christian foundation) who are specialists providing help and information in a particular area.
Mental health problems are very wide-ranging. They vary from the stress and worry we all experience at times, to more serious conditions that can affect the way we live. Roughly 1 in 4 people will experience some sort of mental health problem at some point in their lives.
A mental health problem only becomes serious if it begins to interfere with your ability to cope or function in your everyday life. It's important to recognise when this happens so you can look for some support.
Most people successfully manage their mental health problems, and with the right support, go on to lead very active and fulfilling lives.
If things seem very bleak or scary you can contact:
Your GP or out of hours GP service. He or she can usually deal with a mental health problem more quickly and fully than an Accident and Emergency (A&E) department. If you are concerned you can still go to A&E but may have a significant wait.
If you are under a Community mental health team you can call your care co-ordinator or the out of hours emergency number you have been given. Any problems contacting help call your GP or the GP out of hours service.
